2,000 10s for 2010

I confess, I love a great BHAG (Big Honorable Audacious Goal)

so I’ve come up with a dilly, and I could use your help. Since kicking off the effort during National Poetry Month in April, a growing number of 10 poetry fans continue to joyfully work away at the goal of growing awareness of the new form of poetry I invented known as 10. (That’s #10poem for you twitterers). Collectively, we’re making steady process towards creating 2,000 10 poems during 2010. (For the mathematically inclined, how many poems/day is that between now and December 31, 2010?) However many it is—we can do that!

To make it easy for you, you can submit your 10 poem(s) right here on the blog, or if you prefer, tweet them, but please use the #10poem hashtag to be sure it gets collected. Or even better, you can add this to your tweet: @10poetry and I’ll see it for sure.

If you haven’t played with 10 poetry yet, there’s no time like the present—the learning curve is REALLY short—just 10 syllables arranged in 3 lines arranged 2-3-5. It’s a perfect new form of poetry for our crazy-paced world. Even though they don’t take long to write, they DO create space in your busy days for observation, reflection, and creative expression. Go ahead, give it a try. Eight out of ten doctors say writing a poem a day lowers your blood pressure. (Well, I have a hunch they would if they had the sense to study such things!)

Any Poetry Therapists out there who can affirm our hunch?

To learn more about how to write 10 poetry, hop right over here. If you’d like some prompts to spark your muse, check these out. Though the 10s posted on this site are moderated, all reasonable attempts will be published. So flex your ten fingers and join the fun.
