writing poetry that empowers your tongue

What is a 10? A 10 is a new short form of poetry, that hones the power of your communications
|
Has this happened to you yet—you notice the time and it’s late afternoon or even early evening and you glance outside, only to be surprised that’s there is still some light in the sky. It’s always such a delight to witness evidence that spring really is on the way. While each day has its own inherent beauty, as winters sputters out, it’s difficult not to yearn for more warmth and light.
These times of transition as one season wanes and another one emerges, create a special opportunity to sharpen our senses and go on a hunt for signs in nature. Get outside and find some snowdrops or crocuses; notice raspberry shoots rising or sparrows gathering moss for a nest—and come back in and compose some tens about what you saw. These subtle moments in life can easily slip by us and fade from memory, so what better way to preserve them forever, than through poetry? And please—do share your 10 poems with us.
Here are some prompts to get your creative flow going:
• Where does winter linger in your landscape?
• Did you find ways to enjoy or celebrate it? Did you take a personal snow day?
• Are you done hibernating, are you ready to be more engaged with the world?
• Have you made changes in your life already this year?
• What things are you renewing in your life now?
• Has spring begun to green your exterior world yet?
• Have you experienced unusual weather in your region? Snow in Louisiana?
